The Kaiaua Boating Club was established in the early 1960’s. Our primary objects are to promote safe boating, recreational fishing and to foster fishing as a recreational family sport including competitions and prizes. We also promote social activity for Club members families and guests. We are more than a Club, we consider the Kaiaua Boating Club to be an integral part of the business community providing social activity and advertising for a number of community groups and for our valued sponsors. The Club is well established and brings increased business to local retailers especially on long weekends and over Christmas, as the public flock to Kaiaua to use the boat ramp and marina which is solely administered, funded and maintained by the Kaiaua Boating Club since the club’s inception. We dredge the channel on an annual basis with the costs funded by the club through membership fees, donations by casual ramp users and of course through the financial help and support from our valued sponsors. We are also boosted by the emerging growth to hire our facilities for weddings, birthdays etc. We host the annual Easter egg hunt for the kids on Easter weekend and have hosted courses through Coastguard and St. John.
The club run up to 9 to 12 competitions through the summer months with prizes awarded to our junior entrants as well as adults. The club host four major competitions, Xmas Comp, Snapper Classic, Ladies Day and Take A Kid Fishing. The Club has made sizeable donations to the following organisations: Hospice, Coastguard, the local Fire Service, St John, Canteen, Kaiaua Primary School & Kaiaua Community Library. These funds represent proceeds from the annual fish auction held during the Snapper Classic competition. Our membership is steady with approximately 500 members including our junior members. Membership is widely spread throughout the Thames Valley/Coromandel, Auckland Region, Te Kauwhata, Huntly, Ngaruawahia, Hamilton and local areas including Miranda, Mangatangi, Waitakaruru and Mangatawhiri.
The Firth of Thames/Coromandel is now considered the major marine “playground” of the cities of Auckland & Hamilton with the Kaiaua Boating Club playing a major role in attracting people to visit the area and enjoy all that Kaiaua has to offer.
